Disability Assistance

The Disability Financial Assistance Program provides cash assistance to individuals who are considered to be disabled due to a physical or mental impairment rendering them unable to work. The disability must be medically proven to have lasted or projected to last at least twelve months. Disability determinations are made by a special unit with physicians on staff at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Persons indicating a disability will also be referred to apply for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Program or Social Security Disability through the Social Security Administration and referred to the SSI Case Management Program administered through Muskingum County Department of Job and Family Services.

Other factors of eligibility for Disability Financial Assistance are:

  • income
  • resources
  • citizenship
  • residency in Muskingum County
  • living arrangements (may not be institutionalized)
  • employment history (must not have voluntarily terminated employment without good cause within thirty days of applying for assistance.)

If the individual is in receipt of food assistance and not exempted from participation, they must take part in the Employment and Training Program, Work Experience Program, Job Club, or other program prescribed by the department to assist the individual in meeting the goal of becoming self sufficient.
