Self Sufficiency Plans / ContractsAll adult OWF applicants and/or recipients are required to work with agency staff to develop individualized self-sufficiency plans as well as signing a self-sufficiency contract between themselves and the County Department of Job and Family Services (CDJFS). Self-sufficiency plans are a template for the client to follow in their effort to achieve self-sufficiency. The plan will be developed by the employment services counselor, using the results of testing and/or assessments conducted, with the input and agreement of the client. Most plans involve obtaining self-sustaining employment as their ultimate goal, however, the short term goals could include many different types of work and employment related activities, including anything from Work Experience Programs (WEP) to educational activities. Our clients are required to complete a drug and alcohol screening process and an employment related skills assessment as well as an initial and ongoing self-directed job search. There are minimum participation requirements that must be met by all adult OWF recipients to maintain eligibility for cash assistance for themselves and their families. Once the self-sufficiency plan has been agreed to and signed, any failure to abide by the terms of the plan and contract can result in the client being sanctioned and losing their OWF benefits. Under the terms of the contracts with our clients, the CDJFS agrees to provide supportive assistance to the client as they work towards their goals. Among other services, the OWF client can expect to be provided with daycare, Medicaid eligibility, transportation assistance and many other work related services many of which are covered under the county PRC Plan. When the client has successfully transitioned from OWF to employment the CDJFS may continue to provide day care and Medicaid benefits for up to 12 months. We may also provide job retention assistance through the Retention component of our PRC Plan. |
