Goals of the Program
The planners or the "TIES" program feel this program will not only benefit the participants, but also the community at large. We are taking and nurturing a group or students who are considered "at-risk" and working with them to mold them into contributing community members. This is how: Study table: A certified teacher will be on hand to help participants. They will have 1 hour twice a week to complete their homework, finish projects, complete reports. Etc. There will be a tutor on staff ready to help the participants with any problems. The T.I.E.S. program has a schedule that will allow students the time to complete their homework in a quiet setting; The T.I.E.S. Coordinator will meet with the participants on a bi-weekly basis and make sure the an participants are accomplishing the goals of the program. Tutoring: A certified teacher will be on hand to help participants with homework and any other problem areas that have been targeted by teachers, guidance counselors and/or report cards. Participants will have 1 hour twice a week of tutoring. Life skills: Life skills workshops are designed to touch on issues that participants experience everyday but might not know how to deal with them. Workshops like Conflict Management and Resolution, Anger Management, Hygiene, Morals, and Ethics are some of the areas discussed. Work Experience: The work experience with T.I.E.S. is designed to help participants learn what it is like to work or be expected to perform tasks. The Zanesville City School System has agreed to cooperate with supplying job sites for our participants. The participants will perform such tasks as: filling out time sheets, learning and listening skills, complete job tasks, Etc. Work experience will be 7 to 8 hours per week. During the summer program (approximately 6 weeks long) 14 year olds will participate in the following:Remediation program: The Remedial program focuses on continuing the participants' learning during the summer months:. Participants will be working on math, reading, and science. Remediation will be 3 hours a day three times a week. Guest Speaker and career related activities: For 2 hours a day once a week participants will learn the correct way to fill out applications and prepare a resume. The activities scheduled will prepare them for the world of work. The T.I.E.S. program will have guest speakers speaking on career preparation and college as well as other relative subjects. As this program comes together, we see a tremendous potential for the T.I.E.S. program to make a significant impact on the lives of the young people in our school system that are targeted to be at risk and eligible for the program. |
