Genesis Health Care System

As the years progressed the community's expectations of hospitals changed. In addition to returning the sick to health, the hospitals were looked upon to keep people healthy and to provide care outside of the hospital walls. Bethesda and Good Samaritan responded to these changing expectations. New and innovative programs were developed to provide the information and support needed to stay healthy and productive.

It develops and oversees programs that provide health care, employment and economic assistance, child support, and services to families and children. These include the Food Stamp Program; the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC); Child Nutrition Programs (National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care, Summer Food Service and Special Milk); and Food Distribution Programs (Schools, Emergency Food Assistance, Indian Reservations, Commodity Supplemental, Nutrition for the Elderly, and Charitable Institutions).
